Grooms Guide to Wedding Prep

There are huge details that go into planning a wedding; the venue, your theme or color scheme, the music, the flowers… the list goes on. With so much going into planning such an important life event, the groom tends to leave getting ready until the last minute. It’s true, he has a lot less to think about than a bride does, but it’s his day too, so we’ve come up with a short list to make preparing for the wedding a breeze for him.

Prepping your skin

Just like styling your hair, your skin and facial hair shouldn’t be an afterthought and shouldn’t be much of a change from what you normally do. Regularly washing and moisturizing your face is enough to get healthy skin and keep any spots at bay. However, if you have problem areas, feel free to see a dermatologist at least a month before the wedding, and they can give you professional guidance on how to handle your breakouts.

When it comes to styling your facial hair, stick with your usual style. You will feel most comfortable and confident when you feel most like yourself, and facial hair can be a defining characteristic. If you rock a beard, make sure it’s trimmed and styled neatly. There’s a ton of products on the market to help you achieve a perfectly groomed beard or mustache. If you want to go for a clean shaven look, ensure you’re using a new razor and quality shaving products. This way, you will get a soft face that’s free of nicks and bumps.

Wedding Invitation Trends for 2018 ~

Wedding Invitation Trends 2018

If you like most couples, you want your wedding to be unique, personal, and a memorable experience for your guests. The first glimpse of your wedding if your wedding invitations. You want to be sure to the tone, theme, and overall feel of your wedding from the moment your guests open their mailbox. Below are my choices for the top five wedding invitation trends 2018! I was also asked for my predictions in the International Wedding Trend Report. It is a fabulous resource for your upcoming wedding. The stationery trends are on pages 48 – 51 if you want to flip ahead like I did. It is free to download!

Watercolor Invitations

Watercolor wedding invitations take so many different styles. It can be a landscape of your childhood home, a sketch of your wedding venue, or light flowers. This invitation has the flowers from the bride’s bouquet and is worked into the invitation with the envelope liner and a pretty vellum belly band.

From the International Wedding Trend Report

Wedding Theme Trends

With all of my upcoming clients, they are trending away from a set theme per se. Where in years past, I’d see lots of “rustic barn with an elegant feel” or specific themes like “1920’s Great Gatsby”, couples are trending towards a feeling or overall look to the wedding. We’ll be seeing lots of Elegant and Opulant.

Laser Cut Acrylic Invitations

Laser invitations have been popular for a few years and I don’t see any stop to that. (You can see my top acrylic invitations here) The acrylic is taking a new shape and look this year. This invitation is layered with hi-shine metallic gold and then laser cut. The flowers in the design are directly from the bride’s wedding dress.

Hand Drawn Wedding Invitations

Unique and personal invitations go to another level with a hand-drawn invitation. Dawn and Kevin are self-proclaimed “geeks”. Inspired by a poster in their home, I suggested a drawing of the two of them looking up at the sky. When Dawn asked if their FIVE cats could be around them. My answer was, of course! Guests from their wedding raved and raved about the uniqueness of their invitations.

Velvet Wedding Invitation Trends

I started working with velvet a few years ago. (You can see those invitations herehere, and here). Now you see it all over the red carpet, in table linens, and ribbons. Adriann wanted the texture of the velvet with a flower pattern to match her wedding dress. Made as a panel style, there is a velvet pocket on the back for the inserts!

From the International Wedding Trend Report:

Colour Predictions for 2018 Stationery

Jewel tones, but in more muted tones. I’m seeing lots of lavender, dusty rose, slate blue, sage green. And of course, they are all still being paired with gold. I think that after years and years of only ivory and blush being the color accent to gold, we’re finally going to see some color coming back.

 Laser Cut Invitations

Laser cut wedding invitations have been popular for years now.  The designs are more intricate and more unique with each year. Jennifer and George’s wedding was at their family Greek Orthodox church. Their laser cut belly band is a design inspired by the curtains at the Fillmore Theatre with an Orthodox cross in the center.

2018 New Pantone Color ~ Purple

This Insightful Post from our very own Asheville NC native florist Robert Hill of BobbyMark’s Design

With a New Year in full swing brings new colors and trends for the upcoming Wedding Season in 2018.  After reviewing some of the top leading Wedding Professionals and print Magazines in the industries here are a few things we can expect to see for 2018.

Pantone colors of Ultra Violet and other various shades of purple is where this season is headed. The main color of ultra violet color can seem quite strong to many but, there are ways to incorporate such a powerful color into the season’s trend.

Leading Professionals are saying the organic greens and mixed greens will be taking a back seat this season. But, I think we haven’t lost it entirely. We can still see early in the spring and summer wedding a nice mix of softer dusty greens mixed with softer shades of floral working in the Ultra Violet pop of color. Mixing these softer shades of ivory/creams, various shades of pinks and lavenders will be on target for early season’s Trend.

As we head into the later Summer/Fall Season we can expect more deep rich vibrant mix of colors giving a more Regal elegant feel to our Ultra Violet Trend. Deep rich vibrant shades of magenta, eggplants are sure to be seen in the later season’s mix. Some are saying the Royal wedding is leading the trend for this seasons color Palette ~ So will they select Purple?  We shall see…

With the trend in changing venues to unique Rooftops, Museums, Warehouses and other hidden finds. Professionals are telling us to expect more metals and woods in the mix of vessels with the floral mix and cleaner designs to this year’s trends. But, always keep in mind when working with the Ultra Violet colors in your venue, the darker the venue use lighter or strong vibrant contrasting colors to make your color of Ultra Violet pop and not blend into the venue.

3 Ways to Find the Warmth in Your Winter Wedding

Winter is often considered an off season for weddings. From unpredictable snowfall to setting a date during the holiday season, the qualities of winter that can make for a great wedding are often overlooked. Just because it might be cold outside, doesn’t mean your wedding can’t be warm and romantic. I believe you can make your winter wedding warm, cozy and inviting for guests using these three simple tips.

Wedding Trends

Winter Color Schemes

Incorporating the right color into your wedding is a great way to make your guests feel warm and welcome. The colors of your wedding can be used in the small details of floral arrangements, or even in more grand and obvious ways, like the wedding party attire. Navy and Marsala, for example, is a great color combination for a winter wedding. Marsala is warm and elegant, and using this color as the foundation of your bridesmaid dresses will make your bridesmaids stand out against snowy scenery in wedding photos. Let these marsala-toned dresses from Weddington Way inspire you! If you’re looking for a stylish tuxedo rental for your groomsmen, I recommend the color navy. Navy is just as timeless and classic as a black tuxedo and compliments Marsala effortlessly. The Black Tux is a top pick among groomsmen for finding quality tux rentals online in a variety of colors.

Warm Cocktails

Equip your guests with mugs and surprise them with fun and delicious cocktails to warm them up. Mulled wine, irish coffees and hot toddy’s are crowd favorites when it comes to keeping your wedding fun and guests engaged. I recommend a hot chocolate bar for guests to make their own beverages as they mingle together. Be creative with candy and nut toppings and offer different liquors for guests to give their drinks a sweet and spiked twist.

Wedding Venue

Choosing the right venue is crucial for a winter wedding. The way your decor is displayed and flows together really depends on the venue that you choose. You can choose to keep the theme of your wedding rustic and charming by holding your wedding in a ski lodge tucked within the mountains. Or if you would like to keep things more elegant and sophisticated, hold your wedding at a polished and dignified stone castle. Cozy fireplaces and beautifully arranged wedding candle decor will set an ambiance to the venue’s atmosphere. Provide small seating areas for guests to gather for intimate conversation or choose a venue with large windows to admire the snow-covered scenery outside.

Winter can be one of the most beautiful seasons to get married in. Choosing the right colors, reception options, and venue are a few of the ways you can make your wedding warm and inviting. Use the season’s beautiful and unique traits to make your special day one of a kind. What would you do to bring a feeling of warmth to your winter wedding?

Winter Wedding at Old Edwards Inn, Highlands NC

The warm days are gone here in Asheville! We, at Shay Brown Events, are really looking forward to our winter events and loved this wedding at Old Edwards Inn so much we thought we would have a flashback to this beautiful winter day for those planning their winter 2016/2017 weddings.

Old Edwards Inn is an amazing venue year round but is particularly special after a fresh dusting of snow. This European style retreat is set atop the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina giving your wedding the perfect scenery and backdrop. We loved the photographer, Nick Breedlove Photography. He captured the beauty of the season and was a delight to work with.

It may have just snowed the night before, but that did not stop this bride from showing off her lovely dress with her bridesmaids. She rocked her warm fur coat and heels before making her way down the church aisle and then into her stunning reception at Old Edwards Inn.

Sparkling white lights and gorgeous greenery created the most amazing ambiance for this winter wedding. Glowing candles and fresh flowers made this night comfy and cozy for all to enjoy. Guests loved the warmth of the venue while watching light snow blow around outside through the large open windows surrounding the reception.

Beautiful centerpieces and decor are what we live for. Candles and delicate flowers are perfect for an intimate table setting. The incredible flower arrangements were done by Oakleaf floral, they turned out so wonderfully. These flowers mixed with silver votives add touches of elegance and reflect the brightness of tea lights around the room for a remarkable candlelit dinner.

The SBE Team is here for you every step of the way as we plan and design your perfect wedding. We take such pride in our work and want to make your day everything that you ever wanted it to be.
Until next time,
XOXO
